The image below was created by the Tanners and is available at Introduction to 3,913 Changes in the Book of Mormon. I have put it here because it is very useful to examine the changes that have been made to the Book of Mormon were not made all at once, but rather, they were made in stages. The LDS Church made alterations to the Book of Mormon without consulting the golden plates from which they were allegedly translated. Joseph Smith said

I told the brethren that the Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book. (see the Introduction to the Book of Mormon in the current edition)

Consider the audacity of Smith’s claims in light of how free the LDS Church feels to alter what the put to the world as the “keystone” of Mormonism.
